One of my wife’s dream was to visit Yellowstone, enjoy the scenic views, hopefully see some wild life there. After our previous trip to Death valley we were more confident in our little one’s ability to travel. I’ve checked if there were any tent sites available for the end of May, and to my surprise – there were. With a smile on a face I’ve quickly booked one for 3 nights. But once I’ve checked the weather report, my smile vanished: 35F at night with rain and snow… We’re not ready for that yet. So I had to cancel tent site reservation and booked a cabin with heater on KOA campground instead.
Travel and Lifestyle
We don’t often fly to vacations. In most cases we prefer to have a road trip. When traveling with kids, we’ve got used to like the flexibility of road trips: take whatever you want, have your own schedule, stop whenever you want. But on the other hand, road trips are more exhausting, require a lot of preparation. So to have a rest from road trips, we try to fly for a “lazy” vacation at least once a year. As we skipped vacation last year, we went big this time.
About a year ago I was driving through Death Valley, I’ve probably spent less than 4 hours in it, but I was confident that one day I have to come back and spend at least couple days there. Well the time has come. My 3 day weekend was coming and we as a family decided to go to Death Valley. When Kate told some of her friends that she’s going to Death Valley, some of them believed that “it’s the place where people die”. Now we had to prove that they were wrong =)
During one of my trips to Hollister Hills SVRA I’ve noticed a sign showing direction to Pinnacles National Park. I’ve never heard of it before, but decided that we should check it out one day. Las week we’ve finally decided to visit it. Quick online search showed that there are trails that go through caves. This sounds like a nice family adventure. So we woke up early Saturday, packed and took of at about 9am.
Long before I bought a truck, I knew that I will have mobile ham radio installed in it. As it is a new truck, I did not feel comfortable drilling any extra holes, so I’ve spent some times finding the way to install all of it with minimal damage. In the post I will describe what it takes to install a Kenwood v71a dual band radio into Tundra TRD Pro.
Okay, okay, this is not a REAL expedition. It’s just a small road trip. But one day we will get to real expedition, on a real expedition rig. This was a two day weekend trip with one night stay in the hotel. The plan was to visit Clear Lake, Glass Beach and Safari West.
It’s been a while since we went for a trip. We’ve finally decided to go camping for a weekend. One of our regular challenges is to choose a campground. There are so many of them in California and we’re always afraid to make a wrong choice. This time, I’ve suggested just to chose a direction, not a destination. we’ve packed all gear, food and water and headed north.
